Dengfeng Bridge

Dengfeng Bridge was first built in the 15th year of the Ming Dynasty's Wanli reign (1587). It is an ancient stone bridge with a long history, and the famous tourist Xu Xiake crossed Qiyun Mountain from this bridge. It has nine holes and ten piers, with a total length of 147 meters, a bridge deck width of 8 meters, and a height of 9.5 meters. It has a magnificent momentum and looks like a rainbow when viewed from afar, and a dragon when lying on the waves. Until now, it has been well preserved and is rare in China. To investigate the reason, we only need to come to the bridge to understand. At the north end of the bridge, we can see a "Junshi" prohibition monument in the main hall of Huizhou Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty. The full text reads: "It is strictly prohibited to push carts for sun drying, not to burn and expose dirt, not to sharpen the railings, and not to fish at the foot of the bridge. It can be said that these words are not only engraved on stones, but also on the hearts of the people on both sides of the Hengjiang River. In the fifteenth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1587), Gu Zhixian, who was then the governor of Huizhou, observed the people's situation and issued the initiative of "repairing bridges". After three years of private fundraising and government support investment, the bridge was completed. Named 'Dengfeng Bridge'. However, at the completion ceremony, just as the plaque was about to be unveiled, the imperial decree arrived. Due to the outstanding achievements of the ancient sages, they were promoted to the position of Deputy Inspector of Guangdong. It's really a great joy. Just as people were thinking about how to congratulate the ancient governor on his promotion, a local scholar suggested, "Why don't we make a fuss about the name of the bridge and change the peak character of the mountain peak to the title of an official, in order to wish the ancient governor to climb up step by step?" As soon as the words fell, the people present praised him repeatedly. From now on, Dengfeng Bridge is not only a transportation route to climb Mount Qiyun, but also an auspicious place in people's hearts. There is a saying that goes, 'Looking at the bridge from Dengfeng, one can see far and wide, and the blessings are not shallow.'. For those in the officialdom, the significance is even greater, and climbing the Fengqiao Bridge is a metaphor for "rising step by step to the clouds and heights".
